Gonia Monastery.

Construction of the monastery began in 1618 and was completed in 1634. The Turks completely destroyed it in 1645. It was rebuilt in 1651 and later housed a school during the Ottoman Empire. The monastery gained complete independence in 1861 and became a headquarters for the Army on the island. Built like a fortress, it features a main church at the center of an inner courtyard, with the surrounding structure housing the abbot's quarters, monks' cells, refectory, and auxiliary rooms. The museum contains artifacts from the 15th to 17th centuries, including several icons by the renowned Cretan painter Andreas Ritzos.
